Mixed Media Angel

Gabrielle Javier-Cerulli

I was thinking about a friend of mine who transitioned to the other side way to early.  This is to honor her and highlight her creative spirit.  She looks angelic in a funky way!  I didn’t want to use one of my photographs so I found something in a magazine. The chakra pocket stencils in the background are meaningful too.

Step 1
I created texture using all the stencils and modeling paste.  Let it dry for a couple hours.
Step 2
Glued down the magazine cutout and the embellishments with heavy gel medium.  Let it dry for 30-60 minutes.
Step 3
Go over everything with gesso.  I did at least 2 coats but on some pieces and added a 3rd coat to others.

Step 4
Then came the color.  What fun!  A brush of color here, a smudge there, and spray over there.  After applying the analogous colors of blue, green and yellow I had to add a pop of color.  So I used the pink.
Step 5
Outline and shadow with pencil and china marker (which is that little bit in the center).
