Upcycled Snack Packs

august 4 h
It’s August already.  Shhh…don’t tell the kiddos that school starts in a week. But you can start on these awesome upcycled snack packs for their lunches or days at the beach or park. Since they’re made from Tetra Paks they are already lined for food stuff. They would even be good to hold other goodies – beads, jewelry, cotton balls, you name it. Or be used as a gift box. I know I’m on an upcycled / recycled kick but I can’t help it.

Step 1
As you can see, I drink hemp milk but Tetra Pak boxes are also used for almond, soy, and rice milks.  I cut the green one to be a box shape and the red to have a flap. The green is now about 4 inches tall and the red is about 3.75 inches tall. Green box’s top is chopped off, then I cut down the corners to make flaps.  Red box is cut on 3 sides only so I can have a flap.

Step 2 – 2 layers of gesso.

Step 3 – Start paintin’!  To get the feathery, stripey look I used this fan brush and 2 different blue paints.

Step 4
Stencil time! For the letters, I used both color ink sprays.  For the chakra heart and key I mixed paint with molding paste.
Lastly, I added small velcro pieces to keep the boxes closed.

The design ideas are endless as are the uses for these boxes!
If the paint starts for peel, maybe applying a fixative will help.  I haven’t had that trouble yet but I think it possible.
