Art Journal Page with glazes and masking tape

Sept 15 a

Today is another art journal page incorporating glazes, masking tape, and a very special quote.  You’ve probably heard this but it’s so good…
And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud
was more painful
than the risk it took to bloom.
-Anais Nin

Step 1 – Immaculate stencil in black but used as a stamp not as a stencil.  Paint was on the stencil then flipped to use as a stamp.

Step 2 – I glued down a bunch of papers with different patterns.  Then placed masking tape in random spots with the edge of a credit card to get a good stick.  After about 15 minutes, then pulled off tape and off came some of the paper leaving cool textures.

Step 3- Now I made the page cohesive by painting on a wash.  This time I used (and often do use) a glaze from Golden.  They are thin but add color.  Rust was used on my page.

Step 4 – Sprayed ink on rice paper.  Rice paper has a wonderful texture and absorbs the inks really well so be careful when using.  Then glued it down, added the painted yellow hansa flower, and details with a china marker.
